Orange peel, cottage cheese, lumps, bumps and dimples, whatever you want to call it, cellulite affects most women at some stage in their lives.
Even the stars aren’t immune from those stubborn little fat cells that take up residence on the bottom, thighs, arms and stomach. How many times have you pored over magazines of celebs on the beach or on the red carpet, displaying those tell-tale indentations? While we all know a diet rich in antioxidants, plenty of exercise and downing litres of water will help to keep it at bay, sometimes a girl’s got to bring in the cellulite-busting battalion. There are hundreds of products on the shelves that promise to blitz cellulite into oblivion. Striking gold might take months, even years, of trial and effort, but it’s worth it to find the one that really does live up to the hype. Give Cellulite the Brush OffGet into the habit of dry body brushing before you hit the shower to help boost the lymphatic system and stimulate circulation. Try a natural bristle brush, such as The Sanctuary’s long-handle brush, £10, and use long, sweeping strokes towards your heart, from the feet up. When you reach the stomach, brush in a clockwise motion. Cellulite-busting Lotions and PotionsRegular use of a cellulite cream or gel can help smooth and tone the skin’s appearance. But remember what has magically erased the dimples on your best friend’s bum might not make a bit of difference to your own problem areas. Shiseido Body Creator, Aromatic Sculpting Gel, £36 at House of Fraser, tingles on application and doesn’t leave a tacky finish while Matis' high-performance body range, called Réponse Corps, includes the best-selling Tri-Active Slimming Concentrate, £24.84, a concentrated gel-cream that, in 14 days, claims to reduce hips by up to 2.6cm and after 28 days, reduce thighs by 1.4cm. Who could resist the quirkily-titled Fat Girl Sleep, £36, by Bliss, which claims to tackle cellulite while you sleep? And If you’re troubled by your midriff, try Givenchy No Complex stomach and waist lotion, £28.87 at House of Fraser, with double action firming and slimming to support tissue tone, accelerate tissue drainage and regulate fat storage. Elemis take a three-pronged approach with their Body Sculpting Secrets set, £65, which features Body Sculpting Lipo-Refining Serum, Body Sculpting Firming Cream and Lime and Ginger Salt Glow, to stimulate circulation and help support the body’s natural drainage. Products Under £10Don’t dismiss the more affordable options, because you don't always have to spend a fortune to get results. Boots Expert range features Total Body Anti-Cellulite Cream, £5.99, which claims to smooth orange-peel skin in just two weeks while Nivea Body Good-bye Cellulite, comes in at just under a tenner at £9.78 Soap and Glory’s Slimwear, £9 from Boots aims to iron out those wobbly bits while Jergens Naturals Skin Firming Body Moisturiser, £4.88 at Boots, contains pomegranate, aloe and white tea to, they promise, visibly moisturise and firm cellulite-prone skin in just two uses. Deadseasource De-tox Seaweed Cellulite Smoother Lotion, £5.49, also from Boots, harnesses minerals from the Dead Sea and combines them with essential oils of cedarwood, grapefruit and peppermint to improve skin tone. And if all else fails? Slap on the fake tan which helps to disguise those irritating lumps and bumps!
