The infomercial boosts that this tool can curl, straighten, and style with faster and better results than a normal curling iron. Does the Instyler live up to the hype?

The Instyler infomercials have crept on to the Saturday morning and late night airways. In line with other infomercial products, the hosts promises that the item is the next best thing. This article will provide background on the Instyler and also a product review.

What is the Instyler

The Instyler is an extreme curling iron. The tool has what appears to be a regular curling iron barrel. Additionally, the item has a brush-like instrument in lieu of the regular barrel clamp. When not in use the barrel and brush clamp are separated from one another.

To use the Instyler the user presses the handle of the barrel and brush together, which initiates the barrel to rotate. When a hair section in placed in the Instyler, the brush keeps the hair centered while the heated barrel rotates. Depending on how the Instyler is held, the result is a flip, curl, volume, or straightened. The best comparison is having a stylist use a blowdryer and round brush at the same time to style a client's hair.

Positives of the Instyler

  • Three temperature settings. The Instyler has different settings for various hair types. High is for thick, coarse hair and heats to 385 degrees; medium is for thin to medium-textured hair and heats to 315 degrees; and low is for fine, thin hair and heats to 285 degrees.
  • Several hair styling types can be produced. Users can style their hair by flipping out the ends, curling ends under, creating heighth or volume at the crown, spiral curls around the head, or even straightening hair like a flat iron.
  • Hair sets easier. The unique tool combines heat and rotation to set the hair and not burn it. It distributes the heat throughout the section of hair for true setting.

Negatives of the Instyler

  • Tricky to use. The Instyler is a bit bulky and requires good co-ordination. May cause burns if used improperly.
  • Only one size available. The barrel of the unit is large, so it will not work on very short hair lengths. It is very difficult to get to the root.
  • Noisy. When in use the Instyler has a buzzing type noise. The noise is not overwhelming, just a bit distracting.
  • Very expensive. The current infomericial sells a "two for one" deal, which is currently around $140.

Final Review of the InstylerThe Instyler works well on fine hair, which is usually hard to curl and maintain a curl. Other hair types will also have good results; however, people with naturally, tight curly hair may have difficulty getting totally straight hair. The Instyler infomericial is mostly accurate in its presentation. The styling tool is best at adding volume to limp hair and manipulating curls/flips on all hair types.

The benefits may not compare to the price of the item, though. If you have tried flat irons and other styling tools without success and are willing to spend the money, the Instyler is a great choice.

I am so disappointed in this curling tool. I bought one for my mom who is a cosmetologist and kept one for myself. Only thing it worked well on is flat ironing. It is virtually impossiable to make a good spiral curl when the iron won't stop rotating long enough to hold the curl. When trying to curl the ends the curls didn't last long at all. In my opinion it is not worth 150.00 dollars, and my mom didn't think so either. It's too big to bulky and straighting the roots of the hair is to difficult.

I am finding that the finished hair style still has some frizz to it as the brush portion causes some static. Wish there was some recommended hair product to use in conjuction to avoid this static.

It was very cumbersome for me to use and it should have a cool tip on the end to make it easier to handle. I did return my product, but now they are billing my account. I did email and I hope that they straighten this situation out. I really was disappointed

Definately not worth the money! I didn't care for it and let a friend borrow it before I returned it. She didn't like it either. It is practically impossible not to burn yourself. I emailed and called customer service but could not get anyone to assist me on return instructions until the 30 days were up. At that time I received an email from them stating I could no longer return it since the "free trial offer" was past 30 days. I am now out $120 and have a product that is junk!!!!!!!!!

MY GRANDMA BOUGHT ME THIS INSTYLER AND I WOULD NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. I BURNED MY SHOULDER WHILE USING IT AND I THINK IT IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY, THE BURN ON MY SHOULDER LOOKS LIKE A HUGE BIRTHMARK, ITS DISGUSTING. IT DIDN'T STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR EITHER IT WORKS LIKE CRAP. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Bought my InStyler at AS SEEN ON TV store for $87.59 (with tax). The Sales lady told me they don't refund "money" in their store. But they're getting so many complaints on the InStyler that they're refunding "money" for returned defective Instylers. Inspite of hearing this I went ahead and bought one hoping I wouldn't have a problem with it. It heated up very quickly which I liked.
When I got ready to use it on my hair...InStyler would NOT ROTATE no matter what amount of hair I put in it.
I'm returning my InStyler tomorrow for my money back. This product is bogus!!!

Bought the instlyer today. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!! Good thing I can return it. Save your money and get a ceramic curling iron. Its only good for straightening your hair. Curls... you can forget it!! Its not worth the hype.
